I have seen Bill out there in Death Valley , and he just hangs out with the fans and acts like a regular guy while everybody treats him like he is so special. But he always plays along, takes endless photos and autographs in stride, and treats everybody like THEY are special. I talked to him five minutes before the 508 started, and he was like a kid…just shaking his head and laughing at the thought of us riding so far. He is just a regular guy who has achieved greatess along the way.

It is great seeing Bill Walton hanging out in Death Valley for various bike rides. Sure is nice to see that Basketball Hall of Famers can sometimes be real people too! Bill rocks!

…the link to the death valley century has a wonderful foto of big bill walton w/ his mentor, a beaming mr ‘class of the court’, coach john wooden…

…what a pairing these two were in their day…the strategy & the action…there was almost a professionalism between them, yet a certain innocence of activity, at the same time…

…& nice post about the complex bill walton & his cycling activities, pietro…the bike is still obviously something meaningful to the man…not just something he did because it was fashionable…

Ah, yes… the day I walked into Ace Wheelworks in Somerville and saw Walton’s bike in the repair stand - Grateful Dead iconography all over the head tube.

That was a good day to wander into a new (to me) shop.

I saw Bill on the ferry from Coronado Island to San Diego with his bike. Before I saw him I noticed this gigantic bicycle in the racks, so I waited around when we docked in SD and who comes and gets it out - Bill Walton.
