He was extraordinary in many ways. I would like to add a few things to Bobke's thumbnail: 1. in 1949, Mockridge won Australian (amateur) national titles at 5 miles, 4 miles, 1 mile, kilo and match sprint. 2. he won his first ever race start, in Geelong, never having been on so much as a training ride with a racing cyclist. 3. in 1947 he won the national road title in a 125-miler. 4. by the end of 1951, Mockridge had contested 10 national titles and won them all. Mockridge was truly gifted, a "natural." He deserves to be remembered and honored in this 50-year anniversary of his tragic death. Thanks, Bobke, for getting his name in front of your audience.
