...you are always the man w/ the goods, pietro, honestly...the added bonus of course, are the links which tend lengthen reading time into hours, at times...

...F1 racing was so much more interesting back in the late '50's & '60's, not because of the danger but due to the lack of sophisticated aerodynamic aids & thus the ability for drivers to pass other cars because of skill or daring...
...unfortunately the lack of safety features makes sir jackie stewarts comments about the era, all too real...
...so many of the best of their age, died in fiery crashes on a regular basis...de portago, taffy von trips, the italian lorenzo bandini...
...i recall reading dan gurney speaking of the dangers of negotiating the masta kink at spa-francorchamps, the scene of jackie's memorable crash in the '66 belgian grand prix...i wouldn't be so pretentious as to try & match his eloquence, but the gist was to imagine driving 170 mph on a undulating narrow public road that blindly switched between farm buildings that edged the roadway...
...unimaginable in this day & age, but those were the times...

...anyway, de vlaeminck, stewart, bowie... loved 'em all for the color they brought to life in those times...thanks for the flashback, pietro...

Nice to see you back, and great tie in with the Kimmage - Jackie Stewart article. Seeing Graham Hill's name reminded me of that other great nemesis to career longevity, light aircraft! If I was famous, I wouldn't get in anything with propellers or rotors.

Nice to see you back! I wasn't a hugh cycling fan in those days (although I was a cyclist) but Sir Jackie was the man!! I remember Rob Walker's piece on the race and thinking how it sounded amazingly brave and stupid all at once.
