2007 Cyclocross World Cup: Koksijde…39

Koksijde sand, 11.24.2007

24 November 2007
This is from the same vantage point as the previous photo, I've simply rotated to the right. The riders have a very short section at the top of the run-up to re-mount their bikes and start churning out the watts to make their way along the descent (towards me) in thick sand. Who would have thought that riding downhill would require such gargantuan strength? The men didn't really have a problem riding this section, but many women were forced to keep their bikes on their shoulders and continue running downhill in the sand until they reached firmer ground. That's a whole lot of running each lap...and there were 2 additional sand run-ups each lap to really test one's running prowess.
