Have an uncle who was Texas state road champion back in 197mmm. For performance enhancement -- for racing, training, going to the grocery store, making love, or just hanging out and listening to Shawn Phillips or Eartha Kit records -- he used to brew up a pot of coffee so freaking strong the spoon would stand up in it, fill his water bottles, drink the rest, then roll a couple of enormous fatties, grab a box of matches, wrap the lot in saran wrap, stuff 'em in the front pocket of his woolen jersey, and hit the hills west of Austin, or Fort Worth, or god-knows-where he happened to be, his Santa Clause beard parting and streaming over each shoulder and his handlebar-mounted double bottle cages holding his Colombian-filled bidons like Anquetil himself. He'd do 100-150 miles a day, fueled almost exclusively by caffeine and THC. Would ride you into the GROUND! Don't think for a moment that the Euroids have anything on Norte Americano wheelmen.

Hey, make mine a vente with a quadruple shot, and stop bogarting...

I think this is great, I think the Queen stage should be held on the old Fon Du Lac crit course. By my estimate 200K would be about 300 laps? I dont remember a lot about my Superweek years (THC), but I remember lapping the field and still finishing out of the money. This would be bike racing Purgatory for all ProTour Euro's.

And on the other subject of US Dopers I have this to say. I think we all know there are US D3 dopers, but none of them are driving around in Ferrari's and dropping $250,000 Euro backpacks off at the Gyno! The multi million euro conspiracy thats run by the teams, riders, doctors, sponsors, governing bodies and race promoters makes Peter's use of Superweek that much more poignant and funny. PULITZER!

My intent in penning this exercise in existential absurdity wasn't really to hold up the American peloton as a paradigm of non-doping virtue. Admittedly, I've been away from elite level competition in the US for some years...so the rumor mill of who's doping and what kind of products are in circulation are things which I'm no longer privy to. I've seen stuff first hand many years ago, but I'm hardly able to venture about the current level of proliferation. Although after reading this post (http://sprinterdellacasa.blogspot.com/2007/07/doping-here-and-now.html), it's likely scarier than I possibly ever envisioned.

At the root of this whole post was Rasmussen's reaction to having all his bovine hemoglobin flushed down the toilet..."Do you know how much that shit cost?!?!?!" (http://pages.citebite.com/m2m0j2q0k3nbm). I think it would be comical to gauge the reactions of the Euro peloton's juicers to finding out that all the money they spent, all the subterfuge at hand to evade detection, it's all for chasing $100 primes in Whitefish Bay instead of world-wide glory within the Grand Boucle.

Agreed mollycameron, its rather naive to assume that the "Euro-pros" have a monopoly on doping. I'm not saying it isn't true, but I don't think we can assume US good Euro bad. Does the UK count as Euro?

The plan would work, until all the doped up domestic racers started getting tested at the Tour. We might end up with more doping scandals than we had in the first place!
